Mopelola Akande (nee Sofolahan)
Vice President and Co-Founder

Mope grew up in Lagos, Nigeria where she attended secondary school at Queen’s College Lagos, Nigeria. At every point from earning her bachelor’s degree to earning her PhD in Electrical engineering, Mope had mentors that guided her to make positive career decisions. Also, she experienced first-hand, through her time as a teaching assistant in the Engineering Projects in Community Service (EPICS) program at Purdue University, how young minds could be taught to use science and technology to make the lives of people a little easier while working on projects that provided opportunities to practice what had been learned in the classroom. These experiences birthed her desire to give back by promoting STEM education in Nigeria, and especially to less-privileged students.

"There are a lot of talented young men and women in Africa, and given the proper mentoring and the right opportunities, Mope believes that these individuals can achieve great feats in STEM fields and make amazing impact in Africa and the global community."
